Our History

In 1959 founder David Coffey started a specialist geotechnical practice in his home in Sydney. The company grew quickly and had opened offices in Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra and Newcastle by the end of the first decade.

In 1990, with respectable revenue of A$22.2 million and a before-tax profit of A$5.8 million, Coffey became one of the first publicly listed Australian engineering consulting companies.

It was in 2000 that Coffey really started its global expansion, with a large acquisition which continued to build Coffey leadership in international development.

The 2002 financial year saw the company earn revenues in excess of A$100 million and in September 2003, the company joined the ASX / S&P 300.

From 2003 to 2008, Coffey undertook a concerted strategy to diversify across services, sectors and geographies. During this time, Coffey acquired more than 30 companies.

Today, Coffey provides services across the full project lifecycle, from concept to completion. Generating revenues in excess of $808 million, the company operates in more than 80 countries from hubs in the Europe and the Middle East, Africa, the Americas and Asia Pacific.
