In late July, the Philippines Australia Human Resource and Organisational Development Facility (PAHRODF) program staff and the Civil Society Commission (CSC) held a human resource symposium in Cebu City, Philippines.
The two-day event brought together leading international experts and more than a thousand HR and organisational development conference participants. The conference focused on strengthening and empowering the pool of human resource and organisational development practitioners and experts.
The PAHRODF project is the Australian Government’s flagship program to support HR management, organisational development and institutional change in the Philippines. A range of support is provided to select organisations, including scholarships, customised short-term training programs and advisory support.
The event provided an opportunity for Coffey staff to participate and share their expertise in strategic management and performance improvement techniques. Skills in design, facilitation and implementation for forward-planning and management were considered especially useful.
The importance of this event for facilitating sustainable development was emphasised by Elaine Ward, AusAID Acting Minister Counsellor.
“Human resource and organisation development is key in driving reform and social change. A performance management system is crucial to making these happen. Australia is supporting the Philippine Government to enhance its performance management system, which will help strengthen the culture of excellence, performance and accountability in the civil service. Through this, Australia continues to make a real difference by working with the Philippines to achieve change and development,” Ward stated.
The Hon. Francisco T. Duqu III, Chairman of the CSC stressed the importance of the symposium for sharing innovative measures for upgrading standards of public sector governance.
“It gathered a 1000 HR and organisational development practitioners from both private and public sectors in what promises to be an engaging, enlightening and extraordinary learning experience. My colleagues can look forward to fresh perspectives in performance management, particularly on the newly-developed Results-Based-Performance Management System and the Strategic Performance Management System,” he said.
