    As Managing Director of Coffey International Limited, I’m responsible for 4000 people in more than 80 countries. I’m accountable for their overall performance – and I set our strategic direction. Since my appointment, I’ve refocused Coffey on our strengths, so the extraordinary talent within our business can bring their ingenuity to bear on solving clients’ problems.

    I’ve led the company through three years of significant change, reducing our costs by $35 million in the process. I’m really proud that we’ve improved our client focus and recently won Best Consulting Engineering Firm (revenue greater $200 million) at the BRW Client Choice Awards.

    Before I joined Coffey I had a 15 year executive career with Boral Limited, culminating in the role of Executive General Manager for their Australian Construction and Materials business in 2004. My experience with Boral shows I know what it takes to create a lasting career in a changing market.

    I’ve also worked for the Boston Consulting Group where I provided specialist strategic advice to high profile organisations across a wide range of industries and countries. This gave me the tools to lead and direct strategic programs – and create positive and lasting change for turnaround businesses

    By trade, I’m a geotechnical engineer with more than 25 years’ experience working in engineering, consulting and senior management roles. I’ve worked around the world and understand that when you’re in the field, experience counts.

    I believe that, when brilliant people get the right support – whether that’s training, equipment or systems – it frees them up to think. That’s when you get innovation. And that’s when what we do at Coffey truly makes a difference.

    As Finance Director, I have overall responsibility for Coffey’s global finance and commercial functions. I support our operations in more than 80 countries, drawing on my international experience, including senior general management roles in Europe, the US and Asia. 

    My diverse background in the resources, manufacturing, FMCG and professional services industries gives me the chance to make an important contribution to Coffey’s strategic direction. Recognising my contribution to our leadership team, and my capabilities leading both ASX100 and small companies, I was appointed to Coffey’s Board of Directors in 2012.

    I have considerable experience on leading loss-making businesses back to profit through major change programs, drawing on my expertise in capital management. Following the GFC, I applied these disciplines to our business, leading Coffey’s organisational redesign and restructure. In the process, I took more than $25 million of overhead costs out of the business.

    Since joining Coffey in 2011, I’ve led the transition to our consolidated Coffey brand. Our clients now have a clear picture of our integrated service capabilities. This has made it easier for them to see how we can help them throughout the asset lifecycle. It’s also allowed our people to showcase the ingenuity and innovation that forms part of their work every day. We’re leveraging digital communications to provide a truly responsive client experience by sharing real-time information about changes and developments that affect their industries. I’m now focused on further developing our client focus to support lasting relationships over the long term.

    Who I am & what I do

    I’m the Group Executive for our Environments business. I have over 25 years’ experience in the environmental and engineering consultancy sector. My experience spans a range of resource and infrastructure projects from major road, port and rail projects such as the Channel Tunnel Rail Link in the UK to, more recently, a number of significant resource projects in mining and oil and gas. I joined Coffey in 2007 as the Queensland and Papua New Guinea General Manager and took over as the Group Executive in 2013. In addition to leading Coffey’s environmental business, I’m simultaneously responsible for developing our presence in the oil and gas industry.

    What I’ve worked on

    My technical areas of expertise are in environmental and social impact assessment, route and site selection studies, ecological assessments, due-diligence audits and a range of other environmental disciplines. My main skill is in working with clients and engineers to understand their projects and looking at how environmental impacts can be designed out at source. My leadership role requires a broad range of commercial, technical, administrative, people and business development skills, all focused on delivering value for our clients.

    I’m responsible for our Geoservices operations in Ontario, managing our people in two offices. I’ve held a wide range of roles in my 25 year career with Coffey and have worked with all of our businesses in that time.

    I started at Coffey as a project manager and worked in many countries in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, before being appointed as CEO of Coffey’s International Development business in 1994.  I was also a member of the Board from 1995-2000, providing a real understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities that a global business like ours faces. After 2000 I worked in various corporate roles before taking on the position of Group Executive Strategy.

    My role in Ontario covers geotechnical, environmental, materials testing, and building science businesses that support our clients as they develop the infrastructure and property that drives the nation’s growth.

    I’m excited to be part of a company that is truly global, and to be delivering results for our clients across Ontario.

    As General Manager Geoservices Africa, my area of focus is to grow our consulting services in mining, energy, property, transportation, and oil & gas. I’m based in Johannesburg and joined Coffey in 2010.  My career in the mining industry spans 35 years. 

    What I’ve worked on

    I have been fortunate to hold technical and managerial posts during the development of projects from greenfield through to full production on a number of African mining projects. This experience has honed my skills particularly in the fields of exploration, resource evaluation, project implementation, operational commissioning, operation and optimisation and corporate management. I’m a registered Professional Natural Scientist with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP), as well as a Fellow of the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (FSAIMM).
