I’m a Senior Principal specialising in land contamination management with nearly 40 years’ experience, initially in the chemical industry and subsequently in the geo-environmental consulting industry.
My professional geo-environmental consulting career began at Coffey as a graduate engineering geologist. In the mid-1980s, my interest in the environment saw me transition to the, then emerging, contaminated land industry. I subsequently became one of the first contaminated land auditors accredited by state environmental regulators. Today, I am one of the most experienced EPA accredited contaminated land site auditors in Australia with over 20 years’ experience as an auditor. I am currently accredited in NSW and WA, was previously accredited in Victoria (1997 - 2010) and South Australia (2009 - 2018), and I can also undertake audits in ACT and NT.
During my first five years at Coffey, I worked on many landmark development projects in Sydney and a range of mining projects in the Asia-Pacific region. Since then, I’ve been involved in thousands of contaminated land and remediation studies across Australia, in either the role of the consultant or an auditor. These specialist studies have occurred across a wide variety of industry sectors – including property, infrastructure, Defence, petro-chemical, manufacturing, and waste. The studies have involved soil and groundwater contamination assessment and remediation of a broad range of chemical contaminants; many of these projects have resulted in renewal of our urban spaces. These include numerous audits successfully completed on projects across NSW, ACT, Vic, WA and SA. I also have significant experience in providing high level advice to a range of corporate clients as well as acting as an Expert Witness on land contamination matters.
Additionally, I have held leadership positions within the main bodies representing the contaminated land industry including President and Vice President of the Australasian Land and Groundwater Association (ALGA) and President of the Australian Contaminated Land Consultants Association (NSW) where I have worked with the industry and regulators to help shape the state of the contaminated land industry.
I have significant experience and a proven track record in collaborating with clients to deliver smart and innovative solutions to their projects. I have an ongoing focus on urban renewal, which sees former derelict industrial land converted to higher beneficial use. Sustainable remediation of urban renewal sites is an emerging important consideration which helps deliver a better living and working environment.
I’ve spent over half my professional career at Coffey working on landmark projects, many of which have contributed to the world we live in today. I love working on major projects, solving challenging problems for clients and working with other industry leaders contributing to the urban infrastructure and renewal that is currently occurring. Every day brings new and exciting challenges and opportunities to help our clients achieve their objectives. I get to work with a broad and diverse range of professionals who inspire me to do better every day. Great projects, challenges, clients and staff are the reasons why I work at Coffey.
