Te Uku Windfarm Provides Community Benefits

(20 May 2011) In March 2011 the NZ$200 million Te Uku Wind Farm was fully commissioned – with the capacity to generate 64.4MWs of electricity to power the equivalent of approximately 30,000 homes. The wind farm was built by an alliance of Meridian Energy and WEL Networks. This is the first time an electricity generator and retailer and a lines company have entered into an alliance to build a wind farm in New Zealand.

Dr Ben Rotter Recognised as Young Professional of the Year by International Association of Hydrogeologists

(19 April 2011) Dr Ben Rotter, Groundwater Engineer at Coffey Geotechnics, was recognised by the International Association of Hydrogeologists as the New South Wales Young Professional 2011.

Australian Geotechnical Engineering Degree now Accredited

(24 February 2011) Potential geotechnical engineers now have a direct career path available to them in Australia.

The Bachelor of Engineering (Geotechnical) has recently been fully accredited by Engineers Australia. Offered by the University of Tasmania (UTas), the course has been established as a joint initiative with Coffey subsidiary, Coffey Mining, who are providing lecturers and course development advice. UTas Engineering and Earth Sciences staff are also involved in lecturing for the course.

Museum of Old and New Art Opens

(1 February 2011, Hobart, Tasmania) Australia’s largest private museum, the spectacular $75 million Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), was officially opened last week. The development is quite unlike any Australia has known – it is a three-level subterranean concrete and corten steel development with over 6,000 square metres of gallery space. It is comparable in size to Queensland’s Gallery Of Modern Art.

Coffey Geotechnics awarded C$15 million contract with Toronto Transit Commission

(30 March 2010) Coffey Geotechnics Canada, a subsidiary of global professional services firm Coffey International Limited, has been awarded a five year contract worth up to C$15 million with the Toronto Transit Commission (“TTC”).
