Coffey Information will provide onsite laboratory and field testing services, including construction materials conformance and quality control testing, during the construction phase of the project. An onsite testing laboratory, along with a workforce of up to 20 technical staff will be established on the Australia Pacific LNG project on Curtis Island.
Coffey Information’s group executive Michael Renehan said the contract reflects Coffey’s well known capability as a leader in onsite testing services for major projects.
“This win demonstrates our increasing reputation in Queensland for quality materials testing - more clients are choosing us because of our large geographic footprint, quality systems and ability to mobilise resources quickly and efficiently.
“This demonstrates real value for our clients and is the result of significant investment to refine our processes and maximise efficiencies. For example, we recently launched our new lean-design laboratory which has achieved more than 30% improvement in turnaround times on some projects and look forward to applying this to the project.”
Mr Renehan also confirmed Coffey’s long-term commitment to servicing the resource sector boom in Queensland.
“Coffey Information is increasing our footprint significantly in Queensland. We’ve been here since the early 70’s with established base laboratories in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Mackay and Townsville. Off the back of client demand (particularly in the resource sector), we are now further increasing our presence in Queensland by establishing another new permanent base laboratory in Gladstone.
“We see Queensland as a booming area with long-term opportunity for us,” he said.
Coffey Information Service Line Manager Craig Telfer said the contract was an important step and he looked forward to applying Coffey Information’s knowledge on Curtis Island.
“This is an important win with FHMJV as it secures further expansion into the Gladstone area - a significant booming region. We look forward to applying our specialist knowledge of major projects and Construction Material Testing to assist FHMJV on Curtis Island,” he said.
FHMJV Senior Project Engineer Robert Lansdowne said he looked forward to commencing work with Coffey Information to provide Bechtel with quality outcomes.
“Coffey was chosen based on demonstrated major project experience, outstanding turnaround times and quality of tests which significantly reduce production costs and program risks. We are pleased with the small footprint and efficiency of their new design mobile laboratories,’ he said.
In Queensland, Coffey Information has also confirmed a new contract to deliver testing services to Leighton Contractors on the Bruce Highway from Gin Gin to Miriam Vale to support the flood reconstruction works. Coffey Information’s other major projects in Queensland include the Cardwell Range Upgrade, Blackwater to Rolleston Road upgrade, the Pacific National Infrastructure Alliance at Nebo, and Airport Link in Brisbane.
