(15 November 2011) Coffey International Limited (“Coffey”) has been appointed by Thiess to deliver materials testing and analysis services to the Hunter Expressway Alliance. The contract is expected to be worth approximately A$6 million.

Coffey Information will provide laboratory testing services including construction materials conformance and quality control testing during the construction phase of the eastern section of the Hunter Expressway project.

The RTA formed an alliance with Thiess Pty Ltd, Parsons Brinckerhoff and Hyder Consulting to build the eastern section of the Hunter Expressway which stretches from the F3 Freeway to just east of Kurri Kurri.

Coffey Information’s global leader Michael Renehan said the large contract reinforces that Coffey is a leading provider offering genuine value and quality construction materials testing.

“This contract cements Coffey Information as the leader in construction materials testing in large road infrastructure projects. We pride ourselves on setting the benchmark for efficiency and quality and look forward to applying this for a great outcome on the Hunter Expressway upgrade,” he said.

Coffey Information’s Major Projects Manager Stuart Kelaher said it was an important achievement.

“This win is a result of the emphasis Coffey Information has placed on education and demonstrating how quality materials testing and information services can provide better infrastructure outcomes – saving time and money for all parties.

“We’ve worked hard at managing quality through training, applying lean methodologies to our labs and processes, and have a major projects division that specialises in project managing these jobs for our clients. From this, we have achieved efficiency improvements of up to 35% on similar projects which has reduced risks and ultimately project costs.

“On this project we have already established a NATA-accredited laboratory facility onsite which has been designed to best-practice which we believe is best in the marketplace for efficient, quality outcomes,” he said.

Coffey Information is recognised in Australia as a market-leading provider in materials testing and analysis on major infrastructure. They are specialists in construction materials testing and ensuring development works are constructed in accordance with the specified design criteria.
