Professor Harry Poulos, a foundation design expert from Coffey Geotechnics who has been responsible for the foundations of some of the world’s tallest buildings, presented at the conference on his recommendations for safer, earthquake resistant cities and buildings. Coffey reported an EBITDA² loss of $39.7 million for the year ending 30 June 2011. The FY2011 reported result includes impairments and non-recurring restructuring costs of $72.0 million which were within the forecast range announced on 8 June 2011.

(20 May 2011) In March 2011 the NZ$200 million Te Uku Wind Farm was fully commissioned – with the capacity to generate 64.4MWs of electricity to power the equivalent of approximately 30,000 homes. The wind farm was built by an alliance of Meridian Energy and WEL Networks. This is the first time an electricity generator and retailer and a lines company have entered into an alliance to build a wind farm in New Zealand.

(24 March 2011) Brisbane’s Gateway Upgrade Project was judged as the nation’s best infrastructure project of the year, at Infrastructure Partnerships Australia’s prestigious National Infrastructure Awards, held in Sydney last week. The achievement was awarded to Queensland Motorways and the Queensland Government for the project, which includes the new Gateway Bridge, recently renamed the Sir Leo Hielscher Bridge – South. Coffey Geotechnics provided full geotechnical design and construction services for the project which included all bridge foundation design, fill embankment design, ground treatments, pavements and construction advice. Coffey Environments and Coffey Projects were also involved in the upgrade.
(16 March 2011) Coffey Environments’ Principal Ron D’Ercole was recently appointed as a Contaminated Sites Auditor by the Western Australian Department of Environment and Conservation. Ron was the only successful applicant accredited in the last round under the state’s Contaminated Sites Act 2003 (CS Act).
