(23 May 2011) The Todd Property Group has awarded Coffey Geotechnics, a subsidiary of global professional services firm Coffey International Limited, as the lead geotechnical consultants for the Long Bay development in New Zealand.

The 160 hectare development is one of New Zealand’s largest residential projects. Situated on the shoreline 25 minutes North of Auckland, the community will accommodate up to 5,000 people with a village centre, shops, recreational facilities and more than 2,000 dwellings. Almost 23 hectares of the site will be reserved for the public as a ‘green buffer’ to the adjoining North Shore Regional Park and Beach.

Property Group Managing Director, Evan Davies said he was pleased the development was progressing with the assistance of specialist consultants.

“Coffey Geotechnics has in fact been working on the Long Bay development since 2009, however, we recently agreed on the contract for geotechnical and hydrogeological services until 2014.

“We are very excited to develop together this beachside community with a great team of specialists with expertise from all over the world,” he said.

Coffey Geotechnics has already commenced the civil engineering design review on the Long Bay subdivision as part of the five-year contract. The wetland will be the first area developed, to provide essential stormwater capacity to existing development in Torbay and some of the new housing in Long Bay. Coffey Geotechnics will also focus on addressing land and beach slope instability and create embankments to provide the foundation for future subdivision and development. The next stage of earthworks will involve moving more than 1 million cubic metres of cut and fill.

Coffey Geotechnic’s Service Line Manager New Zealand, Neil Watkins, stated he was pleased to capitalise on their global knowledge as well as their local experience in large-scale developments.

“We have worked on iconic global projects such as The Burj in Dubai as well as local projects in New Zealand such as the Kensington in Orewa. We look forward to continuing the application of our expertise to assist the Long Bay community,” he said.
